We are excited to announce our June event where we will be discussing the strategies and pitfalls of selling and purchasing a business. Our guest speaker, Brett from Ray White, is an experienced business broker, buyer advocate and exit strategy developer for business owners.

During the presentation, Brett will cover the necessary steps for vendor and purchaser preparation, including having financial statements ready for the previous three years, having knowledge of forward orders and WIP, and understanding the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of your business from a purchaser’s perspective. He will also discuss the importance of negotiating and knowing your BATNA, as well as deciding on the sale or purchase mechanism.

In addition, Brett will explore the vendor and purchaser behavior required during negotiations, including remaining focused on the process, being flexible and patient, and being civil and courteous at all times. He will also discuss the importance of checking your emotions at the door and remembering that this is not a sales process, it is a negotiation.

Brett’s extensive experience in leading and managing organizations within large private and publicly listed organizations, local government and start-up enterprises, will provide valuable insights into the negotiation process.

⚡️ Presenters’ Bios ⚡️

Brett has a long established record of success in leading and managing organisations within the sectors of large private organisations, publicly listed organisations and local government. Further, he has experience in managing and leading start-up enterprises and have on two occasions been an owner operator of a small to medium enterprise (SME).

Additionally, Bret has a strong history in mergers and acquisitions in multiple industries and act as a business broker and buyers advocate. His skill sets include developing exit strategies for business owners wanting to maximise outcomes on their business sale.

Brett’s senior leadership experience spans seven industries over four decades. In a number of my roles he has participated in, and led, significant change management and revitalisation processes. Further, his ability to craft and implement visionary and conceptual strategic plans has seen the organisations under his guidance experience sustainable and profitable growth. he was in July 2021 appointed as a board member of Sage International Australia.

Additional to his commercial leadership experience, he has experienced leadership roles in the Australian Defence Force in the Army Reserve. He has served on operations overseas and been awarded a Task Force Commanders Commendation. More recently, he has served on Operation Bushfire Assist and on Operation COVID-19 Assist.

Brett’s qualifications include a Master of Business Administration (MBA), a Graduate Diploma in Management, Diploma in Property Services, Diploma of Project Management, a Certified Practicing Business Broker (CPBB), Diploma of Marketing and he is a Certified Practicing Marketer (CPM) and a Fellow of the Australian Marketing Institute (FAMI). Brett is also also a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD) and has completed the Company Directors Course. 

When combined with Brett’s well established leadership experience and commercial acumen, these qualifications have allowed him to develop as a very effective business broker and buyers advocate. Brett is a multi award winning business broker most recently being awarded SA Business Broker of the Year 2020, 2021 and 2022 by the Australian Institute of Business Brokers.
